Learning Objectives

Upon completing the course, students will be able to:


  • Use the R programming language through the RStudio interface
  • Handle R's basic data types and structures
  • Use the tidyverse package (including tibble, readr, readxl, dplyr, ggplot2) and install other R packages
  • Visualize data using graphical representations and the ggplot2 package
  • Write their own R functions and understand R's basic control structures
  • Use R Markdown language and create a simple R Markdown report
  • Acquire basic skills for data examination and manipulation required in statistics courses

Additional Information

The course is a partial requirement for the courses A Tilastolliset ohjelmistot and NM00AJ54 R-ohjelmointi. If the intention is to complete one of these courses during the course implementation period, students should register directly for the respective course, which also includes guidance sessions. The R-kielen alkeet course is entirely independent study.


Assessment

The course completion consists mainly of automatically checked Moodle assignments (four entities). The fourth entity includes an assignment that the teacher either approves or requests to be supplemented until it is worthy of approval (if the supplement is not made by the requested deadline, the assignment is rejected). Completing the course requires completing all four entities with approval.
