Program Overview
Introduction to LANTITE
The Literacy and Numeracy Test for Initial Teacher Education Students (LANTITE) is a mandatory test for all students enrolled in an initial teacher education course in Australia. This test must be passed prior to graduating from their course.
Program Requirements
All students enrolled in an initial teacher education course are required to attempt the LANTITE test before the end of the first year of their Australian ITE qualification. Previously, students were allowed three attempts to complete the LANTITE. However, from 2025 onwards, Initial Teacher Education students may undertake unlimited LANTITE test attempts.
Specific Program Details
- The 1773 Master of Teaching (Early Childhood and Primary) requires students to pass the LANTITE before enrolling in their final professional experience in a school setting, TEAC7106 Professional Experience K-6.
- The 1774 Master of Teaching (Early Childhood) does not require students to undertake the LANTITE.
Eligibility to Sit the Test
- Candidates sitting the LANTITE will have no test limits.
- Students who have used all of their three attempts or are on a period of leave from their program can register themselves for the test without re-enrolling or waiting.
- Prospective students, including Year 11 and 12 students, recent school graduates, mature age or mid-career people, and people enrolled in pathway courses, can sit the LANTITE test before they commence their studies.
- Prospective/unenrolled international students can sit the LANTITE test before they enrol or once enrolled in an accredited ITE course.
