Program Details

The program in question is "Tutkimustieto ja data-analyysi" (Research Information and Data Analysis), which is a 5-credit course offered during the academic year.


Course Description

This course introduces students to the characteristics and methods of scientific research, as well as the stages of statistical research. Students will learn about the general features of scientific research, the importance of research information, research ethics, and research methods from different perspectives. The course also covers the targets and stages of statistical research, the formation of observation data, and the principles of statistical inference.


Course Objectives

Upon completing this course, students will understand the research process and the characteristics of scientific knowledge. They will be able to evaluate and use information sources critically, understand the significance of scientific publications, and know the basics of research ethics and good scientific practice. Students will also be familiar with the principles of information retrieval, be able to use the main reference databases in the field of health sciences, and learn to evaluate search results and sources. Additionally, students will understand the different research settings, be able to evaluate the results of studies, and know the principles of good reporting of research results.


Implementation

The course is implemented as a combination of online and face-to-face teaching, including lectures, group exercises, and learning assignments. The learning assignments are completed in the Moodle learning environment.

The study materials include lecture materials and additional materials for group exercises.


Assessment

The assessment is based on participation in lectures, group exercises, and learning assignments. All students are required to participate in face-to-face teaching, actively participate in group exercises, and complete the learning assignments.
