Module Description

The module "Modeling and Identification of Dynamic Systems" teaches methods of mathematical modeling for technical processes based on physical principles. The main goal is to develop the ability to derive suitable models for controller and observer design and to parameterize them using identification methods.

Contents of the Course

The course covers:

  • Modeling mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic systems
  • Parameter-based and non-parameter-based identification approaches
  • Optimal estimation procedures and filter (e.g., Kalman filter)

Learning Goals

Students will be able to describe and apply methods of mathematical modeling of technical processes based on physical principles. They will be able to derive suitable models for controller design and parameterize the models with identification procedures.

Learning Setting

The study program combines self-study and group work in a flexible online learning environment. Students have access to video lectures, a detailed and user-friendly script, as well as interactive quizzes and exercises.

Requirements

The course requires:

  • Fundamentals of higher mathematics, especially linear algebra
  • Fundamentals of signals and systems
  • Basics of control theory in frequency and time domain

Activity Confirmation

Regular participation in online seminars will help students solve exercises, which have to be loaded up to the learning management system after request of the mentor.

Certificate

After finishing the exam successfully, students will receive a certificate and a supplement, which will list the contents of the module and the competencies acquired. The supplement confirms the equivalent of 6 credit points (ECTS).

Study Fees

Study fees and participation fees are applicable. Registration is possible in the context of the Master's program Sensor Systems Engineering or Artificial Intelligence for Connected Industries, as well as for microcredentials.

Lecturer

The lecturer for the course is Dr. Soenke Rhein, Development Engineer Mechatronics at Carl Zeiss SMT GmbH.
