Learning Objectives
Upon completing this course, students will be able to:
- Define the role of product development in a company's operations
- Distinguish between innovation activities and systematic product development
- Describe the product development process and its stages
- Work in a product development project
- Use tools like QFD and DFM in product development
- Identify the importance of other company functions (stakeholders) in product development
- Describe how the needs of different stakeholders are converted into requirements and specifications
- Describe the management of different stakeholders' requirements in product development
Implementation Methods
The course includes introductory lectures and online lectures (20 hours) in Moodle, weekly assignments, and a project work that can be completed independently or in remote groups.
Additional Information
The course language is Finnish, and English-language materials will also be used. The course uses the book "Product Design and Development" by Ulrich, Karl T., Eppinger, Steve D., and Yang, Maria C., as well as other materials provided during the course.
