Course Description
The course covers the structures and interfaces of electronic devices, the electromagnetical properties of materials (conductivity, dielectricity, magnetism, and semiconductivity), electronic components (resistors, capacitors, inductive components, and semiconductor components), circuit boards, and connection technologies. It also explores the future of electronic materials and their applications.
Objectives
- The student understands the block structure of electronic devices and their signal processing paths.
- They can identify interfaces for analog and digital electronics, as well as interfaces for programmable devices.
- The student can identify and classify electronic components and compare their properties.
- They can explain electrical conductivity and apply it to the design and selection of resistors.
- The student can evaluate the differences in dielectric materials and how they affect the properties of capacitors.
- They can compare the properties of magnetic materials and their impact on inductive components.
- The student can identify semiconductivity and list common semiconductor components.
- They can classify different circuit board technologies and choose suitable connection technologies.
- Additionally, the student can identify future directions and technologies in electronic materials.
- The student learns multidisciplinary and interdisciplinary skills, comparing differences and similarities between their own field of study and adjacent fields, approaching other fields' perspectives openly, and recognizing potential interdisciplinary perspectives that could advance their own field's development and collaboration.
Implementation
The course is implemented as online studies in the Open University.
Target Group
Open University students and other students of the University of Oulu, first-year students of Electronics and Communications Engineering.
Teachers
Jari Hannu
