Program Details

The program "Matkalla tiedonlouhintaan (AVOIN YO)" is a 5-credit course offered by the University of Oulu.


Course Description

The course covers the data mining process, data collection, and different data types. It also discusses data quality and reliability, data preparation, including handling missing values and outliers, and data normalization and transformation.


Course Objectives

Upon completing the course, students will be able to:


  • Identify the type of data they intend to study and the necessary preprocessing steps
  • Design and implement a data collection process
  • Combine data from different sources
  • Normalize and transform data, and handle missing or erroneous data
  • Ensure the generalizability of results

Course Structure

The course consists of:


  • Lectures (16 hours)
  • Exercises (16 hours)
  • Independent study (103 hours)

Assessment

The course includes weekly assignments and a final exam. The grade is based on the assignments (50%) and the final exam (50%).
