Program Description
The two-year Master's program qualifies students for classical fields of work for historians (journalism, public relations and education, archives and museums) and for all positions that require diversity competencies. The program combines historical science events with modules from sociology, political science, and religious and cultural studies.
Admission Criteria
The admission requirement for the Master's program is a Bachelor's degree in one of the following programs: History, Modern History, Sociology, Social Sciences, Ethnology, Political Science, Religious Studies, Cultural Studies, or a program that does not show any significant differences in content, scope, and requirements to the aforementioned programs.
Language Requirements
The language of instruction is German. A C1 level in German according to the Common European Framework (CEF) is required for enrollment. Since a large part of the research literature for the Master's program is only available in English, good English language skills are expected.
Program Structure

- 3rd Semester: Either a semester abroad or a research internship, with the opportunity to develop one's own research questions for the final thesis.
- 4th Semester: Completion of the Master's thesis, accompanied by a research colloquium.
Assessments and Examinations
Participation in an examination in the MA "Ungleichheiten" (compulsory and elective area) requires timely registration via PABO (Prüfungsamt Bremen Online). The regulations for examinations, including deadlines for registration and withdrawal, are outlined in the program's guidelines.
General Studies
In the General Studies area, additional individual courses or modules from the departments 6-12 or from the General Studies pool of the University are to be attended in the amount of a total of 12 CP. This can include further seminars from the historical science BA or MA programs, sociology, political science, religious and cultural studies.
