Bachelor of Urban and Regional Planning

Overview

The Bachelor of Urban and Regional Planning is designed to equip students with the skills to tackle the complex challenges of contemporary urban and regional environments. This course prepares students for an impactful career in shaping the future of cities and communities. Aims

This course aims to:


  • Prepare students for the ethical application of urban and regional planning principles and adhering to professional standards.
  • Develop the knowledge and skills necessary to manage risk and promote thriving communities in the context of social, geographic, environmental, and economic complexities.
  • Offer industry experiences and practical fieldwork opportunities to build skills and networks for an in-demand career as an urban and regional planner.
  • Integrate the principles of sustainability, adaptation, and resilience to urban and regional planning practice.

Learning Outcomes

On completion of the course, students will be able to:


  1. Determine appropriate approaches to environmental, social, transport planning, and urban design.
  2. Apply a body of knowledge including governance, planning administration, plan implementation, plan making, land use allocation and management, and urban design.
  3. Apply ethical urban and regional planning practices to a range of contexts.
  4. Synthesize analytical and technical skills to create and apply plans that address land-use and built-environment challenges in a range of contexts.
  5. Integrate Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people's and Indigenous people's rights, interests, and planning approaches into urban and regional planning.
  6. Work effectively in professional contexts.
