Máster Universitario en Antropología Aplicada: Salud y Desarrollo Comunitario
The Máster Universitario en Antropología Aplicada: Salud y Desarrollo Comunitario (Master's in Applied Anthropology: Health and Community Development) is a one-year academic program that aims to train specialists in applied anthropology capable of addressing problems in the field of health and development in different cultural environments.
Presentation
This master's program begins in the 2025/2026 academic year, after passing the verification process by the Agencia Nacional de Evaluación de la Calidad y Acreditación (ANECA) and the Consejo de Universidades. The program has renewed its accreditation in 2015 and 2019.
Competencies
The program aims to provide students with the following competencies:
- CB6: Possess and comprehend knowledge that provides a base or opportunity to be original in the development and/or application of ideas, often in a research context.
- CB7: Apply acquired knowledge and problem-solving skills in new or unfamiliar environments within broader contexts related to their area of study.
- CB8: Integrate knowledge and face complexity to formulate judgments based on incomplete or limited information, including reflections on social and ethical responsibilities linked to the application of their knowledge and judgments.
- CB9: Communicate conclusions and the knowledge and reasons that support them to specialized and non-specialized audiences clearly and without ambiguity.
- CB10: Possess learning skills that enable them to continue studying in a largely self-directed or autonomous manner.
- CG1: Correctly analyze social reality, particularly in the area of study of Applied Anthropology to Health and Community Development.
- CG2: Acquire skills to apply qualitative and quantitative methodologies in the analysis of social reality.
- CG3: Develop skills for public speaking on topics.
- CG4: Integrate knowledge of Applied Anthropology and face the complexity of formulating judgments based on incomplete or limited information, including reflections on social and ethical responsibilities linked to the application of their knowledge and judgments in the field of Health and Community Development.
Specific Competencies
- CE1: Integrate theoretical and practical contents essential for "Knowing and Doing" in the field of Health and Development.
- CE2: Develop the ability to interact and understand complex organizations (bureaucracies) in Western and developing countries.
- CE3: Acquire knowledge for the adequate interpretation of new techniques from an integrative perspective and correct verbal communication.
- CE4: Acquire skills to use appropriate methods and techniques for evaluation and/or intervention in the field of health and community development.
- CE5: Acquire the ability to prepare formally valid reports for different institutions.
- CE6: Learn to participate in interdisciplinary teams with other professionals.
- CE7: Acquire self-learning skills that promote autonomous study and updating of necessary knowledge for participation in health and community development projects.
- CE8: Acquire advanced research skills related to the sociocultural aspects of health and disease.
Profile of Admission
The ideal admission profile is a graduate in Social Anthropology. However, graduates in Sociology, Psychology, Political Science, Law, Social Work, Economics, Nursing, Pharmacy, Biology, and Medicine are also admitted.
Access, Pre-registration, Admission, and Enrollment
For online activities, no special knowledge in platform management is required, as students will receive sufficient prior training before the start of the master's program.
Admission Criteria
In case the number of applications exceeds the number of available places, the admission criteria will be based on:
- Titulation in Social Anthropology: 8 points.
- Titulation in Social Sciences and Law, Humanities, Psychology, and Health Sciences: 6 points.
- Academic record: Up to 4 points.
- Professional or voluntary experience in Health and Community Development: Up to 2 points.
- Knowledge of English: 1 point.
The Academic Commission will regulate the entire admission process.
Support and Orientation
The University of Salamanca has various support and orientation services for students, including:
- The Servicio de Promoción, Información y Orientación (SPIO) for individualized attention and support in study and learning issues.
- The Servicio de Asuntos Sociales (SAS) for support in social, foreign, disability, volunteering, and health matters.
- The Unidad de Atención a Universitarios con Discapacidad for support and adaptation for students with disabilities.
Students will also receive information on the requirements and prior knowledge needed before enrolling, as well as the level of involvement required. They will be trained in the use of the Studium platform before the start of the master's program.
Recognition and Transfer of Credits
The maximum number of ECTS that can be recognized for Accreditation of Work Experience and Professional Experience is 9 ECTS.
Study Plan
The study plan includes 10 compulsory subjects (30 ECTS), 5 elective subjects (15 ECTS), and a final master's project (15 ECTS). The program is taught in a hybrid (semi-presential) mode.
