Program Overview
Introduction to the Senior Courses Program
The Servicio Central de Idiomas (SCI) offers non-regulated teaching in English and French to members of the university community over 50 years old.
Eligibility Criteria
- The courses are directed at:
- PTGAS, PDI, and postgraduate students over 50 years old.
- ALUMNI-USAL members over 50 years old.
Course Structure and Objectives
- The courses have communicative objectives in reduced groups of 12 to 16 people.
- They are annual courses of 120 hours duration, structured into different learning levels (English).
- The teaching is distributed weekly in two face-to-face sessions of two hours.
- The completion of the courses entails obtaining a proficiency certificate indicating the language, level, and number of hours taken.
Accessing the Course
- To access the course, one must be:
- A PTGAS, PDI, or postgraduate student of the University of Salamanca over 50 years old.
- An ALUMNI-USAL member over 50 years old.
- Registration is done through the website of the Centro de Formaci鏮 Permanente, following the registration rules established by the center.
Registration Process
- For former students of the Servicio Central de Idiomas:
- Registration should be done through the Centro de Formaci鏮 Permanente website at the next level to the one passed the previous academic year.
- For new students:
- Without prior knowledge of the language, registration is directly in level 1/2 (Initiation) on the Centro de Formaci鏮 Permanente website.
- With knowledge of the language, the appropriate level is determined by taking an online placement test, which can be complemented with a telephone or face-to-face interview at the SCI, always by appointment.
Course Completion and Certification
- To pass from one course to another, students must meet the essential requirement of having passed the continuous evaluation proposed by their teacher throughout the course.
- The final grade will correspond to "APTO/A" (Passed) or "NO APTO/A" (Failed).

Course Fees
- The courses are annual, with 120 hours of duration, distributed in two weekly face-to-face sessions of two hours each.
- The annual registration fee is 410 euros, a unique rate without reduction or exemption.
Course Content
- The program includes various levels of English and French, with a focus on conversation.
- Specific content for each level includes:
- Senior English levels 1 through 9
- Senior English Conversation
- Senior French and Conversation
Additional Information
- Certification: Completion of the course results in a proficiency certificate indicating the language, level, and hours taken.
- Refund of Registration Fee: In case a group is not formed due to insufficient enrollment, the registration fees will be refunded.
- Level of Registration: Determining the level of registration is fundamental for the good development of the courses and the students' benefit. It is necessary to determine it precisely and keep it updated to form homogeneous groups.
- Changes of Level: Changes of level are only permitted with prior authorization from the area coordinator.
- Repeating a Course: A course can only be repeated if the corresponding level was not passed or with prior authorization from the area coordinator.
