Introduction to the CertAcles Examination

The CertAcles examination is a recognized test for justifying foreign language level requirements in applications for international mobility scholarships, degrees, mentions in foreign languages, access to master's degrees, and doctoral programs in Spanish universities, including the University of Salamanca.

Recognition and Validity of the CertAcles Examination

The CertAcles model is recognized by Spanish universities, including the University of Salamanca, for the justification of foreign language level requirements. The certificates issued under this accreditation are valid in Spanish universities that are members of ACLES (60 public and private universities). They are recognized by CercleS (European Confederation of Language Centres in Higher Education) and the Conference of Rectors of Spanish Universities (CRUE).

Eligibility for the CertAcles Examination

The CertAcles examination is open to the entire university community, including:

• Students of degree programs at the University of Salamanca (USAL)
• Students of postgraduate programs at the USAL
• Technical, Management, and Administrative Services personnel (PTGAS) of the USAL
• Teaching and Research Staff (PDI) of the USAL
• Members of the ALUMNI University of Salamanca
• Pre-enrolled students in a master's or doctoral program at the USAL (MUPES)

Examination Schedule

The Servicio Central de Idiomas (SCI) at the University of Salamanca offers two annual CertAcles examination sessions:

• May/June: English B1, B2, and C1, and French B1
• November: English B1, B2, and C1, French B1 and B2, and German B1

Registration for the CertAcles Examination

Registration for the CertAcles examination implies acceptance of the published regulations. The registration period is limited, and places are allocated on a first-come, first-served basis. Registration is done through the website of the Centro de Formaci鏮 Permanente, where candidates must select the appropriate fee and follow the pre-enrollment procedure using their institutional @usal.es account or a Gmail account.

Examination Fee

The examination fee is 55 euros, a single tariff without reduction or exemption, approved annually by the Social Council of the University of Salamanca.

Examination Format

The CertAcles examination is a single-level examination that evaluates the four macro-skills in foreign languages (reading comprehension, listening comprehension, oral expression, and written expression). The examination is offered in a semi-presential mode, with written tests in person and oral tests via video conference.

Passing the CertAcles Examination

Each part of the examination accounts for 25% of the total score. To pass the CertAcles examination and obtain the "Apto" (Pass) qualification, candidates must achieve a minimum score of 5 points in each skill and an average score of 5 or higher across all skills. Only candidates who obtain the "Apto" qualification will receive a certificate of proficiency issued by the Centro de Formaci鏮 Permanente.
