International Japan Studies Program

The International Japan Studies program awards the following degrees:


  • Master's (International Japan Studies)
  • Doctoral (International Japan Studies)

This program builds upon the achievements of its predecessor, the International Japan Studies major, which was established in 2008 with a doctoral program and later expanded to include a master's program in 2015. The program aims to foster research capabilities, specialized knowledge, and ethical awareness in international Japan studies, crossing the boundaries of humanities, social sciences, and Japanese language education.


The master's program focuses on developing a broad foundation in humanities and social sciences, a wide perspective spanning humanities, social sciences, and business, and general knowledge and skills that can be applied in various social settings. The doctoral program, on the other hand, focuses on advanced research capabilities, cutting-edge specialized knowledge, and deep ethical awareness, along with a broad foundation in humanities and social sciences, a wide perspective, and general knowledge and skills.


The program also utilizes systems such as early graduation and long-term enrollment, as well as special admission procedures for working professionals and recommendations from designated schools, to continue developing a diverse, fusion-oriented, and interdisciplinary education and research system that extends from Japan to the world.
