Program Overview
University Program Information
The Bachelor's program in Technomathematics is divided into four study areas: Mathematics, Computer Science, Application Subject, and General Studies.
Study Areas
- Mathematics: This area covers 119 CP and includes modules such as Analysis, Linear Algebra, Computer Practical, Analysis 3, Numerics 1 and 2, Functional Analysis, and Mathematical Modeling.
- Computer Science: This area encompasses two modules with a total of 14 CP, focusing on Practical Computer Science 1 and 2, which cover imperative programming, object-oriented programming, algorithms, and data structures.
- Application Subject: Students can choose one technical application subject from options like Electrical Engineering, Geosciences, Physics, or Production Engineering, which accounts for 30 CP.
- General Studies: This area requires 17 CP, split into Facherg鄚zende Studien (8 CP) for acquiring knowledge beyond the core subject, and Erg鄚zungsfach (9 CP), where students can choose from the university's wide range of courses.
Bachelor's Thesis
The Bachelor's thesis is a crucial part of the program, requiring a minimum of 95 CP in the Mathematics area. Students must find a thesis topic, a supervisor, and a second examiner. The thesis period is 12 weeks, and during this time, students must participate in a accompanying seminar.
Checklist for the Bachelor's Thesis
- Find a topic and supervisor.
- Ensure you have at least 95 CP in Mathematics.
- Register for the thesis 2 weeks before the start.
- Participate in an accompanying seminar.
- Submit three printed and one digital copy of the thesis.
Additional Recommendations
The Study Center recommends courses like "English for Mathematicians and Industrial Mathematicians" for improving English language skills in a mathematical context, and "Mathematics in Professional Practice," which offers insights into the professional lives of mathematicians.
Credit Points and Duration
Each module has specific credit points (CP) and durations, which are detailed in the program's curriculum. The credit points from General Studies are always ungraded and do not affect the overall grade, except for the modules that are explicitly graded.
Important Notes
- Before attending a module from any of the above areas, students must clarify with the lecturer whether the module is open to them.
- The performance records of the completed modules or events are to be submitted to the Examination Office of the Faculty.
- The credit points from the General Studies area always enter ungraded into the overall grade, even if a grade was achieved in the event. All ungraded events brought in are not considered in the calculation of the overall grade.
