Master of Surgery (Advanced Gynaecological Surgery)

Overview

The Master of Surgery (Advanced Gynaecological Surgery) is a postgraduate program designed for specialist trainees in Obstetrics & Gynaecology who are undertaking a Fellowship in Advanced Gynaecological Surgery. This program aims to build on the foundations set in the Graduate Diploma in Advanced Gynaecological Surgery, with an emphasis on evidence-based best practice with respect to surgical techniques for various gynaecological pathologies.


Admission

To be eligible for admission, students must:


  • Be advanced trainees or specialists in Obstetrics & Gynaecology (RANZCOG or other accredited college).
  • Be undertaking a surgical fellowship (minimum 1 year full-time) in Advanced Gynaecological Surgery at an accredited site.
  • Have a minimum of 4 Gynaecology operating lists per week.
  • Have satisfactorily completed the Graduate Diploma in Advanced Gynaecological Surgery.

Sequence

The program is structured over two years, with the following sequence:


Year 1

  • MEDI 7046: Advanced Gynaecological Surgery 1 (20 credit points)
  • HLTH 7008: Introduction to Biostatistics (10 credit points)
  • Select three alternate pool subjects (30 credit points)

Students may exit at this point with a Graduate Diploma in Advanced Gynaecological Surgery.


Year 2

  • MEDI 7047: Advanced Gynaecological Surgery 2 (20 credit points)
  • MEDI 7050: Advanced Practice in Gynaecological Surgery (10 credit points)
  • Select three alternate pool subjects (30 credit points)

Inherent Requirements

There are inherent requirements for this program that students must meet in order to complete their program and graduate. These requirements include being registered medical practitioners undertaking or completed specialist Obstetrics & Gynaecology training through RANZCOG (or other accredited college) and undertaking a surgical fellowship (minimum 1 year) in Advanced Gynaecological Surgery at an accredited site.


Accreditation

While this program does not require accreditation, the clinical component is recognized for advanced trainees in Obstetrics and Gynaecology by RANZCOG (The Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists).
