Introduction to the MBA in Family Business Management
The University of Salamanca has inaugurated the first MBA in Family Business Management in Spain, imparted by the Chair of Family Business, promoted by the Family Business Association of Castilla y León, with the sponsorship of the Santander Group.
Program Details
The MBA in Family Business Management is a unique program that responds to the growing interest of family businesses in professionalizing their management. The program contains 60 credits, with 3 specific credits in Family Business. The program's objective is to provide students with techniques in business management that can be applied to family businesses, opening up a wide range of professional opportunities.
Collaboration with Companies
The program boasts collaboration with 14 companies that have granted scholarships to attract talented students and their own employees to participate in the MBA. These companies include Antonio Alvarez, Bigen Colombia, ENUSA Industrias Avanzadas, Fundación Nido, Grupo Commoziona, Grupo EDIESA, Grupo MRS, Industrias Cárnicas Iglesias, Jamón Salamanca, PricewaterhouseCoopers, Revisan, S.A. Mirat, Santander, and Viajes y Congresos. Additionally, four companies offer five awards for the best students in specific fields: Grupo Global Exchange, Grupo Curto, Grupo Incosa, and Industrias Cárnicas Iglesias.
Practical Experience
The program guarantees paid internships for all students, with 12 credits corresponding to a Final Master's Work that will be linked to the paid internships or the student's job position. This collaboration allows students to gain practical experience in business and provides companies with talented individuals.
Teaching Methodology
The program combines academic rigor with professional experience, as some company executives will participate in teaching. The program also pays special attention to English language instruction, offering a Business English module that will enable students to take the prestigious BULATS exam.
Chair of Family Business
The Chair of Family Business was created in 1997 and is the first of its kind in the Autonomous Community of Castilla y León, promoted by the Family Business Association of Castilla y León. The chair imparts the elective course "Organization and Management of the Family Business" and organizes other academic initiatives and extraordinary courses, open to students and family business owners from the region and other countries.

The Family Business Association of Castilla y León was constituted in June 1997 and is integrated by around 100 family businesses in the region, whose turnover equals 17% of the region's GDP and employs 10% of the private sector workforce.
