Gesundheitskommunikation
Overview
The Gesundheitskommunikation course is a young research field in health sciences. This continuing education course provides both practical communication skills and in-depth theoretical knowledge of communication in counseling and prevention.
Course Details
- The course gives an overview of the extensive field of health communication and critically examines its theoretical foundations.
- The scientific and practical work in the field of health promotion and prevention requires a high level of theoretical knowledge of communication and practical communication skills.
- The course focuses on communication in professional everyday life in health facilities, such as counseling, and on dealing with health in public discourse, such as awareness campaigns or data protection in healthcare.
Modules
- The course consists of the Bachelor's module "Gesundheitskommunikation" and the Master's module "Kommunikative Kompetenzen in der Gesundheitsförderung und Prävention".
- Both modules include a lecture and a supplementary seminar, which can be chosen from several thematically different events.
Learning Outcomes
- Students will know the central communication models and theories.
- Students will be able to name qualitative characteristics that promote the health and well-being of an individual and a social group.
- Students will be able to define different theoretical approaches to counseling.
- Students will be able to apply the difference between the content and relationship aspects of communication to everyday communication situations.
- Students will be able to identify intervention needs of different target groups and develop problem solutions with different target groups in a partnership.
- Students will be able to critically examine health-related media content.
- Students will be able to distinguish between power and abuse of power in person-related communication situations.
- Students will be able to apply basic techniques of professional health counseling.
Target Group
The course is aimed at professionals who work in or aspire to various fields and professions in the health and social sector, particularly in health economics and management, as well as health promotion and prevention.
Admission Requirements
- A relevant profession-qualifying Bachelor's degree
- At least one year of professional experience
- Possibly German language skills according to the University of Bremen's requirements
Course Structure
- Duration: 2 semesters
- Scope: 15 CP
- Examination: Each module is completed with a module examination. Possible examination formats are:
- Oral examination (approx. 30 minutes)
- Written exam (2 hours)
- Presentation with brief written elaboration
- Term paper (approx. 20 pages)
- Certificate: Course certificate "Gesundheitskommunikation"
Study Schedule
- "Gesundheitskommunikation" (Bachelor's module with 6 CP, every summer semester)
- "Kommunikative Kompetenzen in der Gesundheitsförderung und Prävention" (Master's module with 9 CP, every winter semester)
