Social and Human Sciences Graduate Major

The Social and Human Sciences Graduate Major is a program offered by the Department of Social and Human Sciences at the School of Environment and Society. This program is designed to provide students with a comprehensive education in humanities, social sciences, and science and engineering.

The program has five key features that enable students to acquire a broad range of knowledge and skills:

Multi-layered and Systematic Learning: Students acquire broad knowledge in humanities, social sciences, and science and engineering, as well as advanced expertise in fields such as politics, law, and public administration; education, welfare, and health; culture and art; science, technology, and society; and cognition, mathematics, and information.
  2. Acquiring the Bridging Ability: Students develop the ability to connect people and society with science and technology, including insight, reflection, and transfer abilities.
  3. Interaction and Exchange Beyond Borders and Barriers: Students develop interdependent relationship-building abilities, the ability to initiate dialogues among multiple fields and cultures, and an understanding of various values and worldviews.
  4. Independently Forming Advanced Evaluation Criteria and Manifesting Vision: Students develop the ability to independently form advanced evaluation criteria and manifest vision, which is linked to specialized academic research ability.
  5. Pushing Forward and Creatively Designing Necessary Mechanisms and Processes: Students develop problem-solving abilities, including the ability to apply expertise, wide and deep knowledge, and various advanced skills, based on a high ethical perspective and a sense of responsibility.
