TKT CAMPUS Asia program
Program Overview
Introduction to the TKT CAMPUS Asia Program
The TKT CAMPUS Asia program is a joint educational and research exchange program funded by the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology (MEXT). It is one of the Re-Inventing Japan Projects and involves Tokyo Tech, Korea Advanced Institute of Science and Technology (KAIST), and China's Tsinghua University. The program aims to promote international exchanges between these world-class universities in East Asia, cultivating globally oriented future leaders.
Program Outline
The TKT CAMPUS Asia program offers students quality-assured cooperative education and research opportunities. It has undergone two phases: the first phase was conducted from AY2011 through AY2015, and the second phase, known as the Advanced TKT CAMPUS Asia Consortium, is underway from AY2016 through AY2020.
Student Experiences
Two Tokyo Tech students, Junpei Umetsu and Ryohei Kobayashi, participated in the program and shared their experiences. Junpei Umetsu, a master's degree student, studied at Tsinghua University for one year, while Ryohei Kobayashi, a doctoral degree student, studied at KAIST for four months. Both students reported gaining valuable research experience, improving their language skills, and developing a deeper understanding of different cultures.
Outbound and Inbound Programs
The TKT CAMPUS Asia program offers both outbound and inbound programs for students.
Outbound Students: Programs Conducted at Tsinghua University and KAIST
Outbound students can choose from the following programs:
- Coursework and research (fall semester or spring semester)
- Research only (more than three months) At KAIST, additional options include:
- Summer program for one month (extendable)
- Winter break program (more than one month)
Inbound Students: Programs Conducted at Tokyo Tech
Inbound students have three programs to choose from:
- Summer Program: Undergraduate and master's students become members of a lab at Tokyo Tech and participate in the Summer School while undertaking a short-term research project.
- Joint Educational Program: A research-only program where master's and doctoral students conduct research on a topic set by faculty members at Tokyo Tech and at their home universities (KAIST or Tsinghua) to earn a master's or doctoral degree.
- Summer and Joint Educational Combined Program: A program that combines the Summer Program and the Joint Educational Program, allowing students to undertake a research project, participate in the Summer School, and take credit-transferable courses in the fall semester.
