Program Overview
Introduction to the Tokyo Tech Winter Program
The Tokyo Tech Winter Program is a short-term inbound exchange program organized by the Tokyo Institute of Technology. The program allows undergraduate and graduate students from overseas universities to pursue individual research projects under the supervision of Tokyo Tech faculty.
Program Overview
The program was relaunched in 2020 as Bringing Ideas in Remote Discussion (BIRD), a virtual exchange program for students from Tokyo Tech and the University of Melbourne. In 2023, the program was expanded to include other selected partner universities.
Program Details
- Period of Study: February 920, 2024
- General Theme: Japanese Food Culture and Engineering
- Eligibility: Current undergraduate students from selected partner universities
- Program Fee: Free of charge
- Number of Participants: Maximum 30 in total, including up to 10 from the University of Melbourne, up to 8 from other selected universities, and up to 12 from Tokyo Tech
- Application Deadline: November 14, 2023
- Selection Result: November 30, 2023
Program Structure
Participants in the program will:
- Apply and expand their knowledge of Japanese Food Culture and Engineering
- Enhance their skills through group work with students from diverse backgrounds and academic disciplines
- Broaden their international academic and social networks
Schedule
- Lectures on technologies related to Japanese Food Culture and Engineering
- Introductory session and cultural activity
- Collaboration around the program theme (100 min × 6 sessions)
- Final presentations
Certificate
A Certificate of Program Completion will be issued to each participant upon satisfactory completion.

Program Suspension and Future Plans
The winter program has been suspended for AY2024. Information about the program for AY2025 will be announced on the website as soon as it is decided. The program content will be renewed, and participants are encouraged to look forward to the new information.
