Database Fundamentals and Modeling

Learning Outcomes

  • Handle relational databases, including understanding and formulating elementary relational database schemas and data manipulation instructions.
  • Know the structure of database queries and be able to formulate common queries independently.
  • Create UML diagrams for static aspects (class diagrams) and dynamic aspects (activity, state, and sequence diagrams).
  • Transform UML models into relational database schemas, recognizing and utilizing key and foreign key relationships.
  • Understand basic ideas and concepts of relational design (dependencies between attributes, keys, key candidates, normal forms, quality criteria).

Scope

Duration: 1 semester. Workload: 56 hours of attendance events + 124 hours of guided self-study (equivalent to 6 CP).


Participation Fee

450 euros (equivalent to 75 euros per CP). Members of the Alumni Association of the University of Bremen receive a 5% discount.
