PROMOS scholarship program

The PROMOS scholarship program is a scholarship program designed to promote student mobility. The program is funded by the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD) and is administered by the International Office of the University of Potsdam.

Eligibility

To be eligible for the PROMOS scholarship program, applicants must be:

• Regularly enrolled students at the University of Potsdam (in Bachelor's, Master's, or state examination courses)
• German citizens or equivalent (as defined in § 8 paragraph 1 number 2 ff., paragraph 2, 2a, and 3 BAföG)
• Non-German students enrolled in a degree program at the University of Potsdam with the goal of earning a degree from the University of Potsdam
• Not doctoral students

Application Requirements

The following documents are required for a complete application:

1. PROMOS application form (online)
2. Confirmation from the host institution stating the duration of the stay; For internships, an internship contract or an internship confirmation stating the duration and area of responsibility, as well as information on the working language
3. Tabular CV
4. A current letter of recommendation from a university lecturer or, in the case of final theses, from the supervisor of the final thesis
5. If applicable, academic certificates (e.g. Bachelor or intermediate examination)
6. List of all courses attended so far (PULS extract or copy of certificates, no confirmation from the International Office required)
7. Current* language certificate (except for language courses): DAAD language test, UNIcert, TOEFL, IELTS, Cambridge, DELE (Spanish) and DALF (French) are accepted.

What is Funded?

The PROMOS scholarship program funds:

• Study stays of 1 - 6 months: Study stays at foreign universities outside of the Erasmus+ program
• Theses lasting 1 - 6 months: Preparation of final papers worldwide
• Internships of 4 weeks - 6 months: Internships outside of Europe

Application Deadline

The application deadline is:

• 15.11.2025 for stays beginning in January, February, March, or April 2026
• 03/15/2026 for stays beginning in May, June, July, August, or September 2026
• 08/15/2026 for stays beginning in October, November, or December 2026

Scholarship Amount

The scholarship amount is based on the DAAD's country-specific rates. A maximum of 3 months of funding is possible, with a minimum funding period of 1 month.

Combination with Other Funding

PROMOS funding can be combined with other funding sources, such as:

• BAföG benefits: There is an exemption of 300 EUR per month
• Germany Scholarship: Can be received simultaneously
• DAAD individual scholarships: Cannot be received simultaneously

Selection Criteria

The selection criteria include:

• Fulfillment of application requirements
• Academic competence and adequate study achievements -Language skills
• Structure and plausibility of the study project
• Motivation for the choice of host institution and country
• Regulation of recognition

Online Application

The online application is available through the University of Potsdam's portal. Applicants must register and fill out the application form, uploading the required documents as PDF files. Incomplete applications will not be processed.
