Introduction to the IAESTE International Internship Program

The IAESTE program, formally known as The International Association for the Exchange of Students for Technical Experience, is an international non-profit and non-governmental organization. Its primary objective is to promote international internships for students in the technical and scientific fields. In Japan, it is commonly referred to as "IAESTE."

This program involves major universities, including Tokyo Institute of Technology, and aims to foster engineers with a broad international perspective. Students participate in technical training at companies or universities in approximately 80 countries worldwide for a period of 8 to 52 weeks. The host organization typically covers the living expenses of the intern.


Eligibility Criteria

  • The program is open to students in their third year of undergraduate studies or above.

Placement Locations

  • Internships are available in over 80 countries, primarily in Europe, at companies, educational institutions, and research organizations that are part of the IAESTE network.

Program Details

Application Period

  • The application period for the 2026 academic year starts on September 1, 2025, and ends on September 20, 2025.
  • Applications must be received by the Japanese IAESTE office via mail by the specified deadline.

Interview Process

  • Interviews will be conducted by the IAESTE representative at the university by the end of October 2025.

Internship Duration

  • The internship can last from 8 to 52 weeks, taking place between June 1, 2026, and May 31, 2027.

Expenses and Funding

  • Travel expenses, overseas travel insurance, and visa application fees are the responsibility of the student.
  • Living expenses, such as food and accommodation, are typically covered by the host organization.
  • A stipend may be provided during the internship.

  • After submitting the application, selected candidates will undergo an interview process.
