Cotutelle De Thčse - Verfahren (Binationales Promotionsverfahren)

The Cotutelle de Thčse-Verfahren is a binational doctoral program that allows students to pursue their Ph.D. at two universities in different countries.

For Whom is the Cotutelle-Verfahren Suitable?

This program is suitable for students who:

• Have a strong connection between their study and research focus and the other country
• Want to foster scientific dialogue between the two countries
• Are familiar with the language and culture of the other country and can imagine working in both countries later
• Are aiming for an international career

How Does the Cotutelle-Verfahren Work?

• Students create their work under the responsibility of one supervisor in each country.
• Each "Cotutelle de Thčse" takes place within the framework of an individual agreement between the two universities, taking into account the sometimes very different legal framework conditions. Therefore, plan enough time for the preparation of the procedure.
• The dissertation is usually written in one of the two national languages and supplemented by a summary in the other language.
• The "Cotutelle"-dissertation is defended within the framework of a disputation or a rigorosum in one of the two national languages. A oral summary usually takes place in the other language.
• The examination committee set up by the two partner universities consists of scientists from both countries. At the end of the doctoral procedure, there is the award of a joint degree certificate from the two universities or the issuance of two national certificates that refer to the procedure.
