Program Overview
Introduction to the B2D Scheme
The B2D Scheme, also known as the Doctoral-Oriented Education Program, is a unique initiative at the Institute of Science Tokyo. This program is designed for students who aspire to pursue a doctoral degree, allowing them to start their research early, from their second year of undergraduate studies.
Overview of the B2D Scheme
The B2D Scheme offers a tailored curriculum, known as the B2D Specialized Curriculum, which is designed to cater to the individual career goals of each student. This curriculum enables students to engage in research from their second year, providing them with a head start in their academic and professional pursuits.
Benefits of the B2D Scheme
The B2D Scheme offers several benefits to students, including:
- The opportunity to start research from the second year of undergraduate studies
- Early decision on the desired research laboratory
- Access to a tailored curriculum, the B2D Specialized Curriculum
- Opportunities for exchange with students from different fields
- Assistance with study abroad expenses
Application and Selection Process
To participate in the B2D Scheme, students must apply for the special selection process. The application process involves submitting an application form, and the selection process includes a document screening and an interview.
B2D Specialized Curriculum
The B2D Specialized Curriculum is a tailored program designed to meet the individual needs of each student. This curriculum includes two common courses: "B2D Research Foundation" and "B2D Pre-Research Practice." These courses provide students with the opportunity to engage in research and explore their interests.
Graduation and Completion Requirements
The graduation requirements for B2D students include completing the required credits, fulfilling the B2D Specialized Curriculum requirements, and meeting the standards set by their department. The completion requirements for the master's and doctoral programs are the same as those for regular students, with some additional requirements specific to B2D students.
Other Information
Students who participate in the B2D Scheme can switch to the standard curriculum if their goals change. The B2D Scheme is designed to encourage students to pursue a doctoral degree, but it does not force them to do so. Students who wish to switch to the standard curriculum can consult with their department's B2D coordinator.
