Program Overview


Program Overview

The Accessibility Leader Special Lecture is a 1.0-unit course offered to students from 1 to 5 years, held on Fridays during the spring semester. The instructors include Ayaka Fujiwara, Kazunori Takeda, Katsu Kawakami, Shinji Okazaki, Tsuneo Hara, Hideyuki Kobayashi, Ginka Sasaki, and Fumiyuki Noro.


Course Description

This course aims to provide students with a comprehensive understanding of various disabilities, including physical and developmental disabilities, and to explore ways to support individuals with disabilities. The course also covers disaster support for people with disabilities, assistive technology, and comparative studies of support systems in Japan and other countries. By examining these topics, students will develop the ability to think critically about creating an inclusive society where people with diverse backgrounds can coexist.


Course Format

The course is offered in two formats: online (on-demand) and online (synchronous). The on-demand format uses pre-recorded videos, while the synchronous format uses Teams for real-time interaction.

  1. To understand the characteristics of various disabilities
  2. To explain the support methods for individuals with disabilities

Competencies and Degree Programs

This course is related to the master's and doctoral degree programs, focusing on developing competencies such as knowledge utilization, management, communication, teamwork, and leadership.

The course schedule includes 10 sessions, covering topics such as:


  • Introduction to disability support and accessibility
  • Understanding and supporting individuals with visual, hearing, and physical disabilities
  • Disaster support for people with disabilities
  • Assistive technology for people with disabilities
  • Comparative studies of support systems in Japan and other countries

There are no prerequisites for this course.


Assessment Method

The assessment method includes reaction papers and report assignments, with a passing grade of 60% or higher.


Study Time Allocation

Students are expected to allocate time for self-study and preparation outside of class.


Teaching Materials

The required textbook is "Easy-to-understand! University support for students with disabilities" edited by Kazunori Takeda.


Additional Information

Students who wish to practice supporting students with disabilities can take an additional course, "Support technology for students with disabilities," and register as peer tutors.
