Program Overview

Introduction to Radiation Safety Management Center

The Radiation Safety Management Center provides education and training for individuals handling radiation. The center offers various programs, including education and training for new and continuing radiation workers.

Education and Training for New Radiation Workers

The education and training program for new radiation workers is mandated by the regulations regarding radiation safety. The program consists of lectures and practical training, which are both required for completion.

Target Audience and Content

  • The target audience includes new individuals who will be handling radiation and have not received prior training.
  • The content of the program includes:
    • Lectures: approximately 2 hours and 30 minutes
    • Practical training: approximately 2-4 hours
  • The program is offered in April, July, October, and January.

Division of Education and Training

The education and training program is divided into two categories: A and B.

A Division

  • This division includes individuals who will be handling non-sealed radioactive isotopes.
  • The content of the program includes:
    • Lectures: approximately 2 hours and 30 minutes
    • Practical training: approximately 4 hours
  • The target audience includes individuals who will be using the Radiation Safety Management Center's radiation experiment facilities, the Zero Carbon Energy Research Institute, or other external radiation experiment facilities.

B Division

  • This division includes individuals who will be using radiation-generating devices, sealed radioactive isotopes, or X-ray devices.
  • The content of the program includes:
    • Lectures: approximately 2 hours and 30 minutes
    • Practical training: approximately 2 hours
  • The target audience includes individuals who will be using the College of Science and Technology's student experiment room, KEK, SPring-8, J-PARC, or other external radiation experiment facilities.

Schedule and Application

  • The schedule for the education and training program will be announced on the Radiation Safety Management Center's website.
  • Applications for the program can be submitted through a dedicated form on the website.

Requirements for Radiation Work

To engage in radiation work, individuals must meet the following requirements:

  • Receive education and training
  • Undergo a special health examination
  • Continuously measure radiation exposure while working in the radiation-controlled area

Special Considerations

Individuals who have received education and training at other universities or facilities may be exempt from part of the education and training program at the Radiation Safety Management Center, subject to the judgment of the radiation handler.
