Program Overview

Introduction to PeriodUP

The University of Potsdam has introduced PeriodUP, a project aimed at providing free period products to its students and staff. This initiative seeks to make necessary hygiene products accessible to all, contributing to the destigmatization of menstruation.

Objectives of PeriodUP

The primary goals of PeriodUP include:

  • Making period products freely available to reduce financial burdens on individuals, particularly those with low incomes.
  • Creating a more inclusive and supportive environment by acknowledging the needs of menstruating individuals.
  • Encouraging open discussions about menstruation to normalize it within the university community.

Implementation of PeriodUP

The project involves:

  • Installing dispensers with free period products (tampons and pads) in selected toilets across the university's campuses.
  • Ensuring regular replenishment of these products by the responsible cleaning staff.
  • Sharing the costs of maintenance and replenishment between the university management and the student parliament in the first year.
