Program Overview
Department of Psychology
The Department of Psychology at the University of Potsdam offers a range of programs for students interested in pursuing a career in psychology.
Study Abroad
The department maintains active partnerships with several European universities, allowing students to study abroad in countries such as Bulgaria, Denmark, France, the United Kingdom, Italy, Austria, Poland, Portugal, Sweden, Spain, the Czech Republic, Turkey, and Hungary.
Application Requirements
To apply for a study abroad placement, students must:
- Be enrolled as a student at the Department of Psychology, University of Potsdam
- Have sufficient language proficiency for the planned study stay
Application Deadline
The application deadline is typically from December 1 to January 10 for the following academic year.
Documents
The application must include:
- Curriculum vitae (in tabular form)
- Motivation letter (maximum 1 page)
- Transcripts/Diplomas
- Language certificates
Language Requirements
The required language certificates depend on the host university and the specific agreement with the respective department. Some universities may require a certificate in English, while others may require a certificate in the national language of the host country.
Recognition
Before, during, and after the study abroad stay, students will prepare a Learning Agreement with the ERASMUS+ coordinators, specifying which courses will be taken abroad and how many credits (ECTS) they are worth.
Withdrawal
Students may withdraw from their placement or end their stay abroad at any time, but must inform the department, the International Office, and the ERASMUS+ coordination office at the host university as soon as possible.
Extension
Under certain circumstances, a stay can be extended by a maximum of one semester, but this requires reapplication for the following winter semester.

Bachelor Psychology
Full recognition of courses taken abroad may be difficult in terms of admission to the new Psychotherapy Master's program.
Master Psychology (KliPPt)
Clinical courses taken abroad are unlikely to be recognized, but a stay abroad can still be valuable for broadening perspectives and exploring other areas of psychology.
