Program Overview


Expansion of NSF Responsible and Ethical Conduct of Research Training

Introduction

The National Science Foundation (NSF) has expanded the requirement of Responsible and Ethical Conduct of Research (RECR) training to include all personnel supported by NSF, effective July 31, 2023.


Who is Affected

  • All undergraduate/graduate students
  • Postdoctoral researchers
  • Faculty
  • Other senior personnel supported by NSF funding are required to complete the training.

Training Requirements

  • The training must be completed every 4 years.
  • The training can take between two and five hours to complete, based on individual differences such as reading speed.

Completing the Training

  • The CITI Program meets the NSF requirements.
  • The Office of Research and Innovation will send email reminders to project personnel alerting them of the need for the training.

Training Details

  • To complete the training, individuals must register for the CITI Program and select the Responsible Conduct of Research course.
  • The course is available in various disciplines, including:
    • Biomedical
    • Social and Behavioral
    • Physical Science
    • Humanities
    • Engineers

  • Other available RECR training opportunities, including in-person offerings, are available.
