UNH Marine Docent Program

The UNH Marine Docent Program is a volunteer-based effort that presents educational programs to the public.

What is a Marine Docent?

A Marine Docent is a volunteer in a marine education program run jointly by NH Sea Grant and UNH Cooperative Extension.

What Do Docents Do?

Docents learn and share what they learn with students, adults, and the general public through various activities, including:

• SeaTrek outreach programs
• Floating Labs
• Public cruises
• Workshops and trainings for educators
• Family Boat Building
• Teaching at the Seacoast Science Center

Joining the Docent Program

To join the program, applicants must:

• Attend 90% of classes
• Make a two-year commitment to the program
• Be a reliable and responsible member of the program

Commitment

Docents are expected to attend classes, participate in extended programs, and be willing to volunteer as needed.

Support

The program relies on donations to support marine education activities and resources.
