Course Description

The course "Prompting Jurídico: A Arte de Conversar com a IA" is designed to equip participants with the skills to strategically, efficiently, and ethically use Artificial Intelligence (AI) in daily legal practice. The course focuses on the practical application of AI, rather than theoretical aspects, to enhance the participants' ability to communicate effectively with AI systems.

Objectives

The primary objective of this course is to enable participants to use AI in a way that complements their professional responsibilities, ensuring they can leverage AI tools to improve the quality and efficiency of their work. Specific objectives include:

• Structuring effective commands for various legal tasks
• Applying advanced techniques for prompting, including chain of reasoning and role interpretation
• Identifying and mitigating ethical, deontological, and confidentiality risks
• Critically evaluating AI-generated responses
• Implementing productive workflows that integrate AI
• Recognizing the limitations of AI and knowing when not to use it
• Creating a personalized library of prompts adapted to their work style and area of specialization

Programmatic Contents

The course is divided into eight modules, each focusing on a different aspect of using AI in legal practice:

Module 1: Fundamentals of AI for Jurists

• Introduction to the current state of AI in law
• Myths vs. reality: capabilities and limitations of AI in legal practice
• Overview of available tools (ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini)
• Ethics and professional responsibility
• Preparation of the work environment and secure configuration of tools

Module 2: Anatomy of the Perfect Legal Prompt

• Fundamental structure: context, task, format, tone, limitations
• Importance of specificity vs. flexibility
• Teaching AI about the national legal context
• Difference between asking and commanding
• Laboratory for creating and testing prompts for various legal situations

Module 3: Advanced Prompting Techniques

• Chain of reasoning: making AI "show its work"
• Structuring legal thought explicitly
• Role interpretation and specialization
• Prompting by examples: using real cases for precise guidance and training AI

Module 4: Legal Research and Analysis with AI

• Structuring research on jurisprudence and doctrine
• Comparative analysis of legislation and recent changes
• Synthesis and analysis of documents: summarizing long texts, extracting relevant information, identifying critical points
• Verification and validation: legal fact-checking techniques to confirm AI-provided information

Module 5: Drafting Legal Documents

• Command models for petitions, defenses, appeals, and allegations
• Structuring legal arguments with AI support
• Maintaining personal style while using AI
• Practical exercises: creating complete legal documents

Module 6: Contracts and Business Documents

• Redacting specific clauses with adapted prompts for different contract types
• Risk analysis: identifying problematic points and suggestions for improvement
• AI-assisted negotiation: preparing proposals, counterproposals, and analyzing negotiation positions
• Case study: comprehensive analysis of a commercial contract

Module 7: Legal Opinions and Advanced Workflows

• Structuring complex legal opinions with presentation of alternatives and scenarios
• Sequential prompting systems: dividing complex tasks into steps and passing results between commands
• Intelligent automation: creating specialized "virtual assistants"
• Demonstration: complete workflow from investigation to final document

Module 8: Practical Implementation and Real Cases

• Simulation: a day in the office, from initial consultation to delivery of the final work
• Quality control and validation: 3-layer review protocol and techniques for identifying errors
• Creating a personal toolkit: library of prompts, models for different situations, personalized checklist
• Implementation plan in the office and strategies for continuous evolution

Methodologies

The course will be conducted online, with synchronous sessions where the instructor will address the content and interact with participants. The methodology prioritizes immediate practical application, including exercises with real situations that participants face in their daily professional activities.

Target Audience

The course is designed for lawyers, jurists, solicitors, senior technicians in the legal area, and law students.

Prerequisites

Participants need access to the internet, a computer, microphone, and headphones. It is recommended to have an account in an AI tool (ChatGPT, Claude, or Gemini) to follow the practical exercises.

Instructors

Marta Soares - A jurist by vocation and a trainer by passion, with a Master's in Business Legal Sciences from the Faculty of Law of the Nova University of Lisbon. She is currently attending a Postgraduate course in AI and Law at the Faculty of Law of the University of Lisbon, combining solid legal training with specialization in the practical application of artificial intelligence to law.

Duration and Schedule

The course will take place from March 2, 2026, to March 9, 2026, online, with sessions from 09:00 to 13:00 on the 2nd, 4th, and 9th of March.

Fees

• 195 for former trainees of TecMinho, the Academic Community of the University of Minho (teachers, employees, researchers, students, former students, interfaces), and the unemployed (upon presentation of proof).
• 220 for other participants.
