Endorsement Plan: Gifted and Talented

The University of Arkansas offers an endorsement plan in Gifted and Talented education, designed for licensed Arkansas teachers. This program enables teachers to gain an endorsement in Gifted and Talented education from the Arkansas Department of Education.

Program Description

Arkansas defines gifted and talented children and youth as those of high potential or ability whose learning characteristics and educational needs require qualitatively differentiated educational experiences and/or services. The University of Arkansas provides 15 hours of online courses required by the Arkansas Department of Education for a licensure endorsement in Gifted and Talented education.

Admission Requirements

Teachers apply to the University of Arkansas as non-degree-seeking students to pursue this endorsement.

Course Schedule and Rotation

The following courses are offered:

• CIED 58003: Nature and Needs of the Gifted and Talented (every Fall)
• CIED 58103: Curriculum Development in Gifted and Talented (Prereq 5803, every Spring)
• CIED 58203: Gifted and Talented (Structure) Practicum (Prereq 5813, every Summer)
• CIED 61603: Social and Emotional Components of Gifted and Talented Students (every Fall)
• CIED 60703: Seminar in Developing Creativity (every Spring)

Additional Requirements

Those who apply for an endorsement from the state are also required to successfully complete Praxis 5358 - Gifted Education.
