Overview

The aim of this module is to teach apprentices the underlying principles, concepts, and terminology of infection and immunity.

Details

• Contact hours: 150 hours (including 51 hours of "off the job" learning)
• Method of assessment:
  • Written Assignment (50%, 2,000 words)
  • 2 hour Exam (50%)

Learning Outcomes

• Demonstrate an understanding of the nature of infectious diseases, their transmission and spread.
• Develop an understanding of the elements of the immune system in terms of the body's response to infection.
• Appreciate the consequences of immune responses.
• Demonstrate an understanding of the methods used to manipulate the immune response and appreciate the role of immunisation and vaccination programmes.
• Analyse, evaluate and correctly interpret data.
• Present and communicate data effectively.
• Obtain and use information from a variety of sources as part of self-directed learning.
• Display time-management and organisational skills within the context of self-directed learning.

• Credit level: 5 (Intermediate level module usually taken in Stage 2 of an undergraduate degree)
• ECTS credits: Recognised throughout the EU and allow you to transfer credit easily from one university to another.
