Program Overview
Student Work and Service Program (SWASP)
Introduction
The Student Work and Service Program (SWASP) is funded by the Government of Newfoundland and Labrador and is designed to reduce the debt load of students. It offers a valuable work opportunity applicable to the student's program of study and career objectives, as well as a tuition credit.
Eligibility
- Funding is available to student parents enrolled at Memorial University.
- A student is defined as a person who is currently enrolled at Memorial University.
- A student parent is defined as a person who has dependents in their care.
- The student agrees to only hold one SWASP placement during a given semester.
Program Options
- Two options are available:
- 100 hours - $1000 tuition voucher and $865 cash stipend (totaling $1865)
- $1865 tuition voucher (no cash stipend)
Requirements
- The student agrees to participate in a program evaluation if requested.
- The student may not be placed in a position where the senior employees with hiring right authority are members of the student's immediate family without approval from the SWASP Coordinator.
- The student agrees to complete the required number of hours indicated on the SWASP application.
- The student agrees to perform their duties to the best of their abilities.
Application Process
- Complete the SWASP Application Package and submit it to the designated office.
- The application must be signed and initialled before submission.
- Students are responsible for finding a position (project/research) related to their studies with an applicable employer.
- The employer includes full-time faculty or staff members of Memorial University.
- After having a conversation with the full-time faculty member or staff member, the faculty member or the staff member needs to sign on the application before the student submits.
