Introduction to the Interdisciplinary PhD Program

The Interdisciplinary PhD (IDPhD) program is designed for students whose academic interests span multiple disciplines. This program offers an intimate and varied community where students can pursue studies that cross traditional disciplinary borders.

Description of the Program

• The IDPhD program involves courses, a comprehensive exam, and a thesis.
• It can normally be completed in four years of full-time study.

Admission Requirements

• A Master's degree in an appropriate area of study and an excellent academic record are required.
• Additional requirements include:
  • A detailed Research Proposal of 15-20 pages, explaining why three distinct disciplines need to be combined, including a clear statement of the research questions and a relevant bibliography.
  • At least three copies of the IDPhD Letter of Commitment Form, signed by each supervisor, co-supervisor, and/or committee member, including the approval of the head of their academic unit.
