The Faculty of Medicine at Memorial University offers various programs for future learners, current learners, and faculty and staff.
Undergraduate Medical Education (UGME)
The Undergraduate Medical Education (UGME) program is designed to provide students with a comprehensive medical education. The program consists of four phases:
- Phase 1: Introduction to the medical profession and basic sciences
- Phase 2: Clinical sciences and patient care
- Phase 3: Advanced clinical training and preparation for practice
- Phase 4: Electives and transition to residency
Postgraduate Medical Education (PGME)

Admission Requirements
Admission requirements for the UGME program include:
- Completion of a bachelor's degree
- Completion of the Medical College Admission Test (MCAT)
- Completion of the Casper test
- Interview with the admissions committee

Internal Medicine IMG Stream
The Internal Medicine IMG Stream is a program for international medical graduates (IMGs) who wish to pursue a residency in internal medicine.
- The program is open to eligible IMGs who have not completed prior postgraduate training.
- Applicants must sign a return in service agreement for a period of five years, served in the province.
- Failure to sign the agreement will result in the offer of the postgraduate seat being rescinded.
Return of Service Agreement
The Return of Service Agreement is a commitment by the applicant to provide medical services in the province for a specified period.
- The agreement is for a period of five years.
- The applicant must begin work as an internal medicine physician in the province within three months of completing the residency program.
- The applicant will provide continuous and comprehensive internal medicine services to residents of the province.
