Introduction to the Advanced Physician Management & Leadership Program

The Advanced Physician Management & Leadership Program (APMLP) is designed to prepare physicians and other healthcare professionals working in medical administration to become effective leaders and managers. This program is a collaborative effort between the Faculty of Medicine (Office of Professional & Educational Development) and the Faculty of Business Administration (Gardiner Centre) of Memorial University, Newfoundland and Labrador, Canada.


Program Overview

The APMLP is a ten-module accredited certificate program. It is designed to address the need for physicians to demonstrate key leadership skills and qualities, as outlined by the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada (RCPSC) and the College of Family Physicians of Canada (CFPC). The program utilizes a combination of online, onsite, and blended approaches to learning, allowing participants to study around their busy schedules.


Program Details

  • The program is accredited and approved for 65 credits toward the Canadian Certified Physician Executive (CCPE) credential by the Canadian Society of Physician Leaders.
  • The CCPE credential recognizes and advances physician leadership and excellence through a national, peer-generated, standards-based assessment process based on the LEADS in a Caring Environment Capabilities Framework.
  • The Faculty of Medicine at Memorial University and the Regional Health Authorities (RHA) in Newfoundland and Labrador fund a number of seats for members of their respective organizations.

Program Structure and Funding

  • The program consists of ten modules, designed to equip participants with the necessary skills to become effective leaders and managers in medical and healthcare administration.
