Program Overview
Master of Science in Mechanical Engineering
The Mechanical Engineering program offers seven major areas of study from which to choose and provides both thesis and non-thesis options. Students can maximize their knowledge of mechanical engineering in the areas of fluid mechanics, solid mechanics, energy systems, thermal sciences, materials and manufacturing, mechanical design, and system dynamics.

Program Structure
Prerequisites:
- Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering
- Graduates with a Bachelor of Science degree in engineering must either have or obtain an undergraduate foundation in solid mechanics and thermal sciences.
- Graduates with a Bachelor of Science degree in science must demonstrate the mastery of content of the undergraduate ME program courses up through the senior courses in mechanical systems design and energy systems design.
Master of Science in Mechanical Engineering - Thesis
- Thesis option: 24 hours of coursework and 1 hour of graduate seminar are required along with 6 hours of thesis research.
- Of these 24 hours, up to 6 hours of "Directed Individual Study" courses can be included.
- A thesis and a final oral exam are required.

- ME 8011: Graduate Seminar (1 hour)
- XX 8XXX: Graduate-level coursework (can include up to 6 hours of DIS- ME 7000) (12 hours)
- Additional Graduate-level Coursework (12 hours)
- ME 8000: Thesis Research (6 hours)
- Total Hours: 31
Master of Science in Mechanical Engineering - Non-Thesis
- Non-thesis option: 30 hours of coursework and 1 hour of graduate seminar are required.
- Of these 30 hours, up to 6 hours of "Directed Individual Study" courses can be included.
- An oral presentation is required.

- ME 8011: Graduate Seminar (1 hour)
- XX 8XXX: Graduate-level coursework (can include up to 6 hours of DIS- ME 7000) (15 hours)
- Additional Graduate-level Coursework (15 hours)
- Total Hours: 31
Admissions Requirements
Students seeking full admission into this program should apply as a classified student. Non-degree seeking students wishing to take classes offered through the online program should apply as an Unclassified student.

Admission Requirements
- An applicant for admission to graduate study must hold a bachelor's degree from a fully recognized four-year educational institution that has unconditional accreditation with appropriate regional accrediting agencies.
- They must meet the admission requirements of the Graduate School and the Mechanical Engineering program.
- Regular admission to graduate study in the program requires a minimum grade point average (last four semesters of undergraduate work) of 3.00/4.00.

- Must obtain application approval from the Dean of the Graduate School
- Payment of non-refundable application processing fee for international students
Provisional Admissions
A student who has not fully met the requirements stipulated by the University and the department for admission to graduate study may be granted admission as a degree-seeking graduate student with provisional status.
Readmission
Once enrolled in graduate study, a student who fails to meet the continuous enrollment requirement must complete an Application for Readmission to register for classes.
Transfer Credit
Students may transfer up to twelve (12) hours of graduate level credits from regionally accredited institutions.
Attention International Students
Applicants whose native language is not English must submit the results of either the TOEFL or IELTS exam.
English Language Test Score Requirements
- TOEFL Essentials: 9 and above
- TOEFL iBT: 79 and above
- IELTS: 6.5 and above
- Admission Eligibility and Outcome vary based on test scores.
Academic Advising
After gaining admission to the university, students must contact one of their advisors to determine the courses that are most appropriate for them to take.
Accessing Online Courses
Videos recorded during on-campus class sessions are uploaded for online students to view within the online course repository. Online students will have access to course videos within 24 hours of the on-campus course completion.
