CPES Modeling and numerical in material sciences
Program Overview
Introduction to the CPES Modélisation et Numérique en Sciences de la Matière Program
The CPES Modélisation et Numérique en Sciences de la Matière is a selective, three-year program leading to a License diploma, co-organized by a university and a high school. This pluridisciplinary formation is of very high level, with an initiation to research from the first year, and allows for further studies in Master with a double, highly sought-after competence.
Presentation
This program is particularly aimed at students destined for research careers, with a Physics/Modélisation Numérique profile. The formation is pluridisciplinary and of very high level, with an initiation to research from the first year. It is co-organized by the Faculté des Sciences de l'Université de Montpellier and the Lycée Joffre de Montpellier.
Ambitious Pluridisciplinary Formation
- A common core in the first and second years in computer science, mathematics, human and social sciences, general culture, and a living language.
- Specific teachings in material sciences (physics, chemistry).
- A progressive specialization supported by deepening or opening projects.
- A promotion of human size that allows each one to flourish.
- Initiation to the research approach stages from the first year.
Original Functioning
- A mixed supervision by teachers of preparatory classes and teacher-researchers from the University, to benefit from the best of higher education.
- In the first year, students attend four days a week at the Lycée Joffre (courses and support) and one day a week at the Faculté des Sciences (deepening, practical activities, and projects).
- In the second year, time is shared between the Lycée and the Faculté des Sciences.
- In the third year, students continue in License at the Faculté des Sciences, with complementary teachings to reinforce numerical and computer competence.
How to Apply
The application is made via Parcoursup, in the "Sciences de la matière" path. Ten places are open. The preferred Terminal specialties are Mathematics and Physics-Chemistry; having followed the Numérique and Sciences Informatiques (NSI) specialty at least until the first year is a plus.
