Introduction to the Eco-Technician Program
The University of Montpellier is introducing a new program, the Diplôme d'Université "Eco-technician in the cultural and creative industries of cinema and audiovisual," aimed at promoting eco-management in the audiovisual sector. This program is designed in collaboration with the École Travelling, the Ecocirculab Chair, and Sète Agglopole to limit the environmental impact of audiovisual productions and support their ecological transition.
Program Objectives
The primary objective of this program is to equip participants with the necessary tools and methods to implement eco-management practices in the cinema and audiovisual industry, as well as in related fields such as live performances and video games. The program focuses on providing a comprehensive understanding of eco-management, enabling participants to measure carbon footprint, identify areas for improvement, and develop strategies for sustainable production practices.

Upon completion of the program, participants will acquire key competences, including:

Program Structure
The program is divided into five main modules:
- Responsible Management in Audiovisual Production: This module covers transition and circular economy in management, human resources, and social responsibility, as well as budgeting and sustainable project management.
- Audiovisual Production in Transition: Topics include ecological art, environmental policy in audiovisual production, health, environment, hygiene, and safety, and ecological transition for stakeholders in the audiovisual sector.
- Practical Challenges of Circularity in Audiovisual Production: This module addresses legal aspects, waste management, circular economy, decor and costume management, digital sobriety, and energy mastery.
- Circularity and Eco-Design from Scriptwriting to Post-Production: Participants learn about eco-responsible approaches in the audiovisual sector, environmental impact assessment of scripts, and eco-responsible choice of locations and equipment.
- Shooting and Assessment: The final module focuses on eco-responsible filming practices, diagnostics, and carbon footprint assessment.
Session Details
The program consists of 112 hours of in-person training. For the current year, one session is scheduled to start in January 2026, with exams taking place in July 2026. Interested candidates should note that the official dates will be communicated later, and registrations close in December 2026.
