Atelier "Impressions vťgťtales"

This event has passed.

  • Type of event: Workshop
  • Dates: December 2-9, 2023
  • Hours: 10am - 4pm
  • Location: Campus Triolet, Building 3, workshop room

The workshop is reserved for students and staff of the University of Montpellier.

Description

The workshop proposes an introduction to different artistic techniques related to the representation of plants: prints, silhouettes, textile graphics, and linocut.

During the two sessions, participants will discover several ways to print plants, represent them, and put them into words.

The first session will be dedicated to discovery and experimentation.

The second session will be an opportunity for each participant to create their unique book.

All levels are welcome, including beginners.

The Concept of a "Livre Pauvre"

A "livre pauvre" is a poetic creation on paper, handwritten and illustrated.

The concept was launched by Daniel Leuwers in 2002, inspired by the illuminated manuscripts of Renť Char. The collection now includes nearly 3000 examples.

On a paper support that can be luxurious or ordinary, a poet writes a text that will be a pretext for the artist to create their illustration or vice versa. The paper is then simply folded in two or folded in an accordion style, following the tradition of the leporello. This form allows the book to be exhibited vertically during exhibitions, so that visitors can walk around it and see it in its entirety.

Such a book does not go through the publisher-printer-bookstore circuit and is therefore outside of commerce. It is also inexpensive to produce, which are the main reasons that led to its appellation. It echoes other forms of "poor" art that developed mainly in the late 20th century, such as Arte Povera. The stripping, the reduction of works to a minimum of material, allows the emphasis to be placed on the process implemented by the artist.
