Introduction to the Medical Acupuncture Program

The Medical Acupuncture program is a Diplôme Interuniversitaire (DIU) that serves as a crucial step towards obtaining the capacity of medical acupuncture. This program is designed to provide students with the necessary foundation to understand the concepts that will be taught in the two-year capacity of medical acupuncture program. The DIU in Acupuncture and the Capacity in Acupuncture are the only national training programs recognized by the Council of the Order of Physicians, authorizing the medical practice of acupuncture.

Target Audience

The program is open to:

• Students in their second semester of general medicine (DES)
• French doctors
• Foreign doctors holding a diploma that allows them to practice medicine in their country or the country where the diploma was obtained
• Students from foreign universities engaged in these different fields

Characteristics and Skills Acquired

Upon completion of the program, students will acquire:

• The level of knowledge necessary to pass the probatory exam for the Capacity of Medical Acupuncture
• Fundamental knowledge of acupuncture to prepare for adapted patient care
• A recognized diploma by the National Council of the Order, which can be mentioned on plaques, prescription pads, or in the professional directory

Objectives of the Program

The objectives of the program are to:

• Allow students to acquire sufficient knowledge for the probatory exam of the Medical Acupuncture Capacity
• Provide the necessary foundation for understanding the concepts taught in the two-year Medical Acupuncture Capacity program

Teaching Methods

The program will be taught by:

• Pr Jean-Paul BEREGI, CHU Nîmes
• L.FRACHON

The total teaching hours will be 81 hours, and the program will last for one year. The exams will include a written and oral component, and the validation of the diploma will require a average score of 10/20 or higher for both written and practical exams.

Capacity and Dates

The program is limited to a certain number of students, and the authorization of registration is indispensable. The registration process will begin in October 2025, and the program will end in April 2026.

Registration Procedure

To register for the program, students must:

1. Submit an online application for registration authorization
2. Complete the online pre-registration form and download it
3. Submit a complete dossier (completed form + supporting documents) online before the deadline indicated on the registration authorization
