Program Overview

Introduction to the Professional License in Chemistry

The Professional License in Chemistry is designed to provide students with specialized skills in various disciplines, enabling them to become experts in their field. The program focuses on the treatment of water and wastewater, with an emphasis on environmental protection and sustainability.

Competences

The program aims to equip students with the following competences:

  • Implementing a water treatment process for urban, industrial, or agricultural water
  • Adapting to and optimizing any treatment system
  • Mastering the approach to water and sludge treatment (biological and physico-chemical treatment)
  • Developing a preventive maintenance plan and implementing corrective maintenance of equipment
  • Conducting analyses (pH, TA, TAC, turbidity, COT, DTO, DBO, DCO, etc.) and mastering the corresponding instrumentation, both in-situ and in the laboratory
  • Understanding hydraulic concepts, network dimensioning, and professional geomatic software
  • Knowledge of the regulatory context and management modes of sanitation and potabilization services

Careers

The program prepares students for various careers, including:

  • Responsible for a water treatment unit, both in the production of drinking water and in the treatment of urban or industrial wastewater
  • Responsible for the maintenance service of water treatment installations
  • Technical manager in a consulting structure in the field of sanitation
  • Technical manager for the design of water treatment systems
  • Operator in an operational control center

Curriculum

The program covers a range of subjects, including:

  • Water treatment
  • Geomatics and modeling of structures
  • Regulation and water actors, environmental management
  • English
  • Hydraulics
  • Analysis devices and techniques
  • Automation and remote control
  • Electrotechnics
  • Sensors for water plants and networks
  • Communication, professional culture
  • Water chemistry
  • Energy consumption and production
  • Civil engineering

Organization

The program is organized in two phases:

  • From September to December, students attend one of four centers: LEGTPA Louis Pasteur La Canourgue, ENIL de Mamirolle, Lycée Théodore Monod-Le Rheu, or SAUT Water Academy Nîmes
  • From January to March, all students gather at the IUT de Montpellier-Sčte, Department of Chemistry Sčte

The program duration is 475 hours + 125 hours of tutored projects.

Alternation

The program starts in September and lasts for one year, with 18 weeks of training and 34 weeks in a company, following an alternation rhythm of 4 to 5 weeks in the center and 4 weeks in the company.

Validation

The validation of the diploma allows students to obtain 60 European credits (ECTS).

Admission

The admission procedure involves three steps:

  1. Receivability of the application: Applicants must hold a Bac +2 degree or be currently enrolled, and submit a complete application.
  2. Admissibility: A pedagogical commission reviews the application and may request additional documents.
  3. Definitive admission: Subject to signing an alternation contract (apprenticeship or professionalization contract) within a company, with missions in line with the theme of the Professional License, limited to available places.

Target Profiles

The program is suitable for holders of a scientific diploma at the Bac +2 level, such as DUT (Chemistry, GEII, Physical Measurements, Industrial Maintenance, etc.), BTS (GEMEAU, Water Trades, Electrotechnics, CRSA, etc.), or L2.

Professional Integration

According to surveys conducted among graduates:

  • 6 months after obtaining the diploma, 78% of graduates who wanted to enter the workforce found a job, including 54% in a permanent contract.
  • 18 months after obtaining the diploma, 100% of graduates who wanted to enter the workforce found a job, including 73% in a permanent contract.
