Program Overview

Introduction to the Interdisciplinary Healthcare Training Program

The integration of behavioral health into primary care has been shown to improve patients' symptoms and provide support to physicians. However, the implementation of this effective practice is impeded by region-specific workforce training and distribution realities. Specifically, Texas has the second-highest health professional shortage in mental health in the country, and the maldistribution of the workforce, combined with a lack of model-specific, context-specific training for master's level clinicians, threatens the implementation of integrated behavioral health (IBH) in primary care.

Program Overview

The Baylor School of Social Work is focused on training the social work workforce to provide gold-standard behavioral health in primary care through two programs:

  • A pre-graduate certificate program
  • A post-masters degree clinical fellowship

Integrated Behavioral Health Certificate Program for MSW Students

The GSSW aims to prepare MSW students, interested in joining the primary care workforce, to provide high-quality behavioral and mental health services using the well-established and effective primary care behavioral health model.

Primary Care Clinical Social Work Fellowship Program

The GSSW is actively recruiting for the inaugural class of primary care clinical social work fellows. Funded by the Sholar Foundation, six social work professionals will receive premium clinical supervision, focused on equipping the clinician for effective practice in primary care settings.
