Program Overview
Curriculum and Instruction Graduate Programs
The Moody School of Education offers various graduate programs in Curriculum and Instruction, including:
- MA in Curriculum and Instruction
- MA in Teaching (MAT)

- MDiv/MA-MSEd
- PhD in Curriculum and Teaching
MA in Teaching (MAT) Program
The Master of Arts in Teaching (MAT) program is designed for individuals who have completed a bachelor's degree in a content area and are seeking initial teacher certification to share their knowledge in a PreK–12 setting. This graduate program leads to a master's degree and supports students seeking their Texas teacher certification.
MAT Educator Certification
The MAT program offers certification in various areas, including elementary, middle, and secondary education.
Application Process
To apply for the MAT program, prospective students must submit their application through the Baylor Graduate School. The application deadline is February 1 for a June start.

- A Personal Statement (2-5 pages)
- A Current Resume
- Two Letters of Reference
- Unofficial Transcripts
Academic Qualifications
To be eligible for admission to the MAT program, applicants must meet the following criteria:
- Overall GPA of 2.75 or higher
- Content Area GPA of 2.75 or higher
- 24 Credit Hours Completed in Content-Specific Coursework (applies to applicants seeking middle or secondary certification areas)
- At least 12 upper-level hours (Junior or Senior level coursework)
Admission Process
Once the Graduate School application has been submitted, the Curriculum & Instruction Graduate Faculty will conduct a preliminary review. If accepted to continue, students will be invited to take the diagnostic TExES content exam(s) for their designated teaching area(s) and may receive an invitation for a faculty interview.
