Requirements for a Concentration in Organ Performance (BM)

The Bachelor of Music with a concentration in Organ Performance requires a minimum of 124 hours. The program includes general education requirements, music core courses, and specific requirements for the organ performance major.

• General Education Requirements (BM): 32-39 hours
• Music Core (BM): 31 hours
• Additional elective hours to reach 124 hours minimum may be required

Performance Major - Organ Requirements

• MUS 4210: Improvisation (2 hours)
• MUS 4213: Service Playing (2 hours)
• MUS 4343: Organ Literature I (3 hours)
• MUS 4344: Organ Literature II (3 hours)
• Performance: 28 semester hours applied major
• MUS 11K3: Undergraduate Harpsichord (1 hour)
• MUS 2260: Elementary Conducting (Music Education Elementary) (2 hours)
• MUS 4114: Internship in Piano Teaching I (1 hour)
• Four semester hours secondary applied (Piano Level IVs): 4 hours
• Select a minimum of eight semester hours of ensemble from the following:
  • MUEN 1136: Studio Accompanying
  • MUEN 1137: Keyboard Skills
  • MUS 2113: Introduction to Harmonization, Transposition & Modulation at the Organ and Piano
  • Three hours in a choral ensemble
• Enrollment in ensemble required for every term in residence
• MUS 40K2: Degree Recital - Organ (Take Twice- Junior and Senior Recitals) (0 hours)
• Two semester hours classroom music courses: 2 hours
• Total Hours: 119-126

1. The curriculum in Piano Levels is designed for secondary piano students.
2. Chamber and classroom music courses must total at least eleven hours, of which at least four must be chamber, at least five must be classroom music, and the remaining two may be taken in either category.
