Program Overview


Research Integrity & Security

The Research Integrity & Security program is designed to promote a culture of integrity and responsibility in research. The program provides guidance and support to researchers, staff, and students on various aspects of research integrity, including human research, animal care and use, biosafety, conflict of interest, and responsible conduct of research.


Program Areas

The program areas include:


  • Human Research: This area provides guidance on human research protection, including policies, procedures, and training for researchers and Institutional Review Board (IRB) members.
  • Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee: This area oversees the care and use of animals in research, ensuring compliance with federal regulations and institutional policies.
  • Institutional Biosafety Committee: This area provides guidance on biosafety protocols and procedures for researchers working with biological agents.
  • Conflict of Interest: This area provides guidance on conflict of interest policies and procedures, including disclosure requirements and review processes.
  • Responsible Conduct of Research: This area provides training and guidance on responsible conduct of research, including research ethics, data management, and authorship.
  • Research Misconduct: This area provides guidance on procedures for responding to allegations of research misconduct.

Training

The program offers various training opportunities, including:


  • HIPAA training for researchers and staff who work with protected health information.
  • Responsible Conduct of Research training for researchers and students.
  • IRBNet training for IRB members and researchers.

Enrolling in the CITI HIPAA Course

To enroll in the CITI HIPAA course, follow these steps:


  1. Go to the Collaborative Institutional Training Initiative (CITI) login page.
  2. Register as a new user or log in using your existing CITI username and password.
  3. Affiliate with the University of Nevada, Reno.
  4. Add the HIPAA course to your account by scrolling down to the Learner Tools section and clicking on the link to "Add a Course."
  5. Select the "HIPAA for Education and Research" course and click "Submit."
  6. The course will be ready for you to begin, and you will receive a completion certificate upon finishing the training.
