GEAR UP Program

The GEAR UP program is designed to provide continual academic support to first-generation college students throughout their middle and high school years, preparing them to enter and succeed in college.

Program Overview

GEAR UP connects first-generation students from Nevada to a range of academic support services to assist them in achieving their college education goals. The program's goal is to provide young people with the necessary support to plan for college, starting in middle school, and to increase their chances of entering and finishing college.

Program Structure

• Students are selected in the 7th grade and followed through the first year of college.
• Students will have access to a GEAR UP Mentor, Student Parent Involvement Facilitator, and the University of Nevada, Reno GEAR UP Ambassador.
