Program Overview


Introduction to the Speech Pathology and Audiology Program

The Speech Pathology and Audiology program is designed to equip students with the skills needed for impactful careers in diverse environments, including schools, hospitals, rehabilitation centers, and community clinics. With a dynamic community of around 200 undergraduates and 50 graduate students enrolled in the B.S., M.S., and Ph.D. programs, students will be part of a dedicated community making a difference in the field.


Program Overview

The program incorporates elements from all areas of specialty to give students complete knowledge of the field. Speech-Language Pathology is the study of speech and language disorders, which includes the evaluation and diagnosis of speech, language, cognitive communication, and swallowing disorders.

Due to rising cases of neurological, speech, language, and hearing disorders, the need for specialists who treat these conditions is at an all-time high. The field involves working with clients of all ages and can include careers in:

  • Universities Speech pathologists require a master's degree (M.S. or M.A.) as well as state licensing in order to practice.

The Master's of Science (M.S.) education program in speech-language pathology (residential) at the University of Nevada, Reno is accredited by the Council on Academic Accreditation in Audiology and Speech-Language Pathology (CAA) of the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association.
